It is safe to swim year-round, off shore in the tropics. Swimming from the beach or in the creeks is not recommended as this is the natural habitat of the salt-water crocodile.
During the warmer months from November to May, you will also be recommended to wear a stinger suit due to the presence of marine stingers.
If you are a keen scuba diver, your closest dive boat is an hour away at Port Douglas, where you will find a few operators.
